One of the most asked questions is if we do the dip. We do not do any dip services. Dip is a type of nail enhancement service that includes a color acrylic powder applied to the nail by using a liquid that is brushed on the nail. This liquid has the same chemical compound as a fast-drying glue (think Super Glue). The fingernail is coated with the glue-like substance and then dipped into a pot of the powder. This is one of the reasons we do not do “dip” nails. Dipping the entire finger into the same pot of powder is not entirely hygienic. A responsible technician doing this service will hopefully refuse to do it on anyone with visible cuts or abrasions on their fingers. After prep of the nail, there may even by abrasions that cannot be seen by the naked eye but will create a pathway for pathogens to enter the skin.
The other reason we do not do “dip” services is because of the deceptive marketing practices by the manufacturing companies. These companies sell this product to nail salons and nail technicians and then tell them to tell their clients that the dip product is organic, that they have vitamins and is healthier for their nails than acrylic. Dip IS acrylic so it is not organic and is not any healthier for your nails than using traditional acrylic (mixing liquid monomer with the acrylic powder). If you go to a nail salon and they want to sell you on their dip services (such as SNS), they will tell you that the dip is healthier for your nails and it has vitamins in it. The vitamins in the dip product is less than 0.0001%. It is very unlikely that any amount vitamins are going to be of any benefit sitting in a product that is going to sit on top of your nails. The nail is a shell that is very difficult to penetrate. There may be some level of vitamins in the cuticle oil applied after your service, which will not be of much benefit unless you apply the cuticle oil yourself regularly.
There is no nail enhancement that is going to be “healthy” for your nails. Nail enhancements such as acrylic, builder gel, or gel polish contain chemicals and the nail plate must be buffed to take off the shine for the products to adhere. The only thing healthy for your nails is an experienced nail technician. A properly trained and skilled nail technician knows the proper way to prepare the nail for the service to minimize any damage to the natural nail.
To help repair and strengthen nails, also offer IBX treatment. IBX was designed by a chemist to penetrate the nail plate using heat that will help bind the layers of the nail plate for stronger nails. This is a great treatment to do under regular polish or gel polish.
